In Conversation with SHRMSTL VP of Programming, Barry Engelhardt, Robert will recount his personal journey with Diversity and Inclusion. Through his study of neuroscience, he gained profound insights into the workings of the human brain. This knowledge deepened his understanding of people, which in turn facilitated easier connection-building. By truly grasping the nuances of human behavior and thought processes, he was better equipped to foster a more diverse and inclusive environment, both professionally and personally.
Robert Washington's life story is a powerful narrative on overcoming adversity and embracing diversity. Raised in East St. Louis, IL, in a challenging environment, Robert developed a resilient mindset, essential for understanding the complexities of diversity and inclusion from a neurological perspective.
His service in the US Navy post-9/11, where he earned numerous commendations, reflects his adaptability in diverse situations, a key aspect in the study of neuroscience and human behavior. Transitioning to a professional mixed martial arts career, he showcased mental and physical resilience, aligning with the neurological aspects of stress and adaptation.
As a speaker, Robert focuses on the mental aspects of challenges, emphasizing growth mindset and resilience, pivotal in understanding diversity and inclusion from a neurological standpoint.
