SHRMSTL 2021 Virtual Legal Update
While 2021 has not started off much differently than 2020 ended, we aren't letting that stop us from providing you with informative and pertinent employment and labor law updates! As always, you will have the opportunity to engage with the region's top Labor and Employment lawyers who will present on a variety of HR legal topics.
In addition, this year we will use the Whova app. We used this platform to host the Annual Leadership Conference this past October. This platform will add some of the cool features we had for the conference like a virtual networking room and virtual sponsor booths with the presenting attorneys, among others. The event will be held in the morning this year, but follows the same format we've had the past few years: a keynote panel presentation followed by your choice of attending deep dive sessions or other breakout session. You will have three different timeslots to choose which deep dive sessions and/or roundtable discussions in which you want to participate.
KEYNOTE PRESENTATION - COVID-19: What Will the "New Normal" Look Like?
Susan Bassford Wilson of Constangy, will moderate a panel with Jim Paul of Ogletree Deakins, John Marino of McMahon Berger and herself as panelists discussing everyone's (not so) favorite topic. The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we work and manage employees. Susan, Jim and John will go over a variety of areas that employers now need to look at through the COVID lens: the future of the workforce, vaccination, lawsuits, work-from-home issues, compensation and more.
DEEP DIVE SESSIONS
Following the keynote presentation, the "hot topics" below will be presented during each of the three timeslots. These will be slightly more formal in nature compared to the roundtable discussions with less open dialogue among participants to allow for the complete presentation of information.
- True Stories: Five Easily Avoidable Reasons Why Employees Won Their Wrongful Discharge Lawsuits
- Employment Law Issues Under the Biden Administration: What Changes Can Employers Expect in 2021 & Beyond?
- What Would YOU Do? An Interactive Discussion of Real-Life FMLA, ADA & Workers' Compensation Scenarios
ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS
In addition to the deep dive sessions, participants have the option to attend any of these other roundtable discussions during each of the three timeslots. Topics will include, but are not limited to:
- The Changing Landscape of Immigration: What to Expect in 2021
- Protests, Freedom of Speech & Managing Your Workforce
- OSHA & COVID-19: Complaints, Inspections & What to Expect from Biden's OSHA
